17 Feb 1917 Dr Leonard George Boor, who died recently at Nelson in his 92nd year, was educated at Christ's Hospital, London. After taking his medical course at Westminister Hospital he practised for about four years in London. His health failing, he determined to come out to New Zealand and take up land. But upon his arrival in Wellington in 1854 he found such a demand for his services as a doctor that he resumed the practice of his profession. In 1870 he was appointed surgeon to the Nelson Hospital and Asylum and held the position for nearly 27 years. He was people's churchwarden at All Saints' Church for many years from 1876 onward. Dr Boor married Miss Emily Mary Arnold (a near relative of Dr Arnold of Rugby) who predeceased him in 1891. His four daughters, who survive him are:
* Mrs R. C. Tennent, of Invercargill, for many years a resident of Patea

* Mrs Kempthorne, wife of Archdeacon Kempthorne of Brightwater, Nelson
- Mary Louisa Boor (1859-1939) married John Pratt Kempthorne in 1878
- a son born 1886 Leonard Stanley Kempthorne became a Bishop
* Mrs Burnett of Woodville
- Edith Johnstone Boor (1866-1952) married Hubert Burnett in 1888
* Miss M. Boor of Nelson
